The online spying practiced by certain States threatens democracy, as the boss of Google.
Larry Page made the announcement Wednesday as part of a particular conference in Vancouver.
He discussed the fact that the communications of users of its site have been intercepted by agents of the National Agency for American security, or NSA, according to information made public by the former Edward Snowden consultant.
"It is extremely disappointing that the government has made it all more or less secretly and did not tell us," said the CEO of Google.
Mr. Page says understand the need for intelligence gathering for national security, but believes that the absolute opacity practiced by the agency regarding the use of this information is not explained.
"We need a debate about it or we can not have a functioning democracy. It is just not possible, "said Mr. Page. He expressed concern that the use of private data for beneficial purposes, such as medical information for conducting scientific research, is removed in response to the scandal of the NSA.
Data published by Edward Snowden reveal that under the PRISM program, the NSA has access to email, photos and other communications users of the most popular websites like Google, Yahoo, Facebook or Skype. Internet giants say they have not given special access to shared on their platforms to the NSA data.
