Haiti is preparing Friday the arrival of Tropical Storm Isaac could become a hurricane, the government urging people to observe the rules of precaution in this country marked by the scars of deadly earthquake of 2010.
At 1500 GMT, the center of the storm was located 265 kilometers southwest of Santo Domingo, capital of the Dominican Republic, which shares the island of Hispaniola with Haiti, said the U.S. Centers Hurricane Watch ( NHC) in Miami, Florida (southeast). It was also 300 km southeast of Port-au-Prince, the Haitian capital.
Isaac moved westward at a speed of 22 km / h, with gusts up to 95 km / h, according to the NHC. "The center of Isaac approaches the southeast coast of Hispaniola today (Friday) before moving on or near Haiti tonight," he said.
According to experts, Isaac also had to move to Cuba Saturday and Sunday.
For now, the U.S. center issued a hurricane warning red only on Haiti, while a tropical storm warning remained in the Dominican Republic, Cuba, the Bahamas and Jamaica.
