Two employees of the U.S. embassy were wounded by bullets Friday near Mexico City after the diplomatic vehicle in which they were traveling had been targeted by federal police officers in Mexico, announced the Departments of the Navy and Interior
"Today at 8:00 am (1400 GMT), a diplomatic vehicle belonging to the U.S. embassy was hit by several bullets fired by the federal police" Tres Marias on the highway linking Mexico-Huitzilac the city of Cuernavaca, located approximately 90 kilometers to the south, said the joint statement of the two ministries.
A Mexican military who was in the car was slightly injured in the incident, said the statement, which states that the three men had been transferred to a hospital and were now out of danger.
The three men headed to a military camp when another vehicle whose occupants have shown their arms, approached them.
"The driver of the vehicle then attempted diplomatic maneuvering to keep his vehicle, and when he came back on the highway, the passengers of the other vehicle opened fire," the statement said.
"A little later, three other vehicles joined the chase and (their occupants) are fired on the vehicle of the U.S. Embassy," it added.
